New Version 5 Features
Today I'm going to introduce some more new features that you can look forward to in Version 5.
With the introduction of Version 4.5, all forums can already expect an update letting them restrict categories based on a member's post count rank. We've taken this a step further in V5.
In addition to having this capability for every category, every board will also have the option to be restricted to certain member groups and post count ranks.
This means that you won't have to create a new category specific for each member group (or post count) that you want to make boards for. Just go straight to making a board, throw it in whatever category you want, and only those with the correct permissions will be able to see and access it.
Another new feature we plan to add is a "name history" in each member's profile. Sometimes people get confused who a member is because they changed their display name. Now you will be able to see a list of names that any user has been known as in the last 30 days just by viewing their profile.

Those are nice features to have, although I have the code pasted which does not allow users to alter their display names.
Will the new Version 5 also allow better control over PM functions, such as disabling PMs for certain members/all members, etc? Or will this still require a code?

Aw man this sounds fantastic. One of my members recently ask me about a board for special users. (Certain Post count to enter board) I told them that I couldnt because it would be yet another code placed on the forum, slowing it down. Im glad that this will be implemented into the the version. I for one, am very excited for the name history feature. I think that there are alot of things you can do with that.
I really appreciate everything that the proboards staff is doing to make ProBoards more appealing to perspective admins as well as making the lives easier on current admins! LOL.

i do hope you'll increase the sub boards in the forum. ^^ I'm loving the new features ideas of the restrciting whatmember groups can post in which boards, I'll save me a lot of tassle with my rpg site ^^

With version 5 it would be good if your in a member group an admin can attatch a badge the says what group they are in.

This is all fine and dandy but will these changes be implemented into all the proboards or just whoever creates one after the version 5 comes out?
Also if all the boards are changed, does this mean we have to take out a bunch of codes we have in already so they don't get messed up?

but is there any plans to change the default layout considering in comparison to say smf or phpbb the default look doesnt look all that great because it looks old

what i would like to see is the option to add users to a group such as moderator or admin, but let them keep their ranks, stars, and number of posts instead of the way it is now where members just get a bunch of stars and a rank of moderator or admin. hope that makes sense.
